"Sittlichkeit" in International Politics

Abstract

The study explores the controversial question of Hegel's critique of Kant's concept of worldwide federation. It analyses the respective paragraphs of Elements of the Philosophy of Right dedicated to the question of international politics with the use of the structural analogy between this section and the previous levels of Hegel's philosophy of right.

Subsequently, it seeks answer to the question whether Hegel's prevalent position is the position of cosmopolitism or nationalism. It claims that Hegel regards international relations as encumbered by ambiguity that cannot be overcome on the level of "objective spirit".
