Abstract

The overlap between several international or supranational legal systems is hardly a new phenomenon. In Europe, this took a more concrete form in the 1950s following the creation of the European Communities and the adoption of the ECHR.

However, over the last twenty years, the consequences of such an overlap have started to materialize more strongly, and this in particular as regards the relationship between the legal order of the Union and international law, and more particularly its ECHR sub-system.
