Abstract

This case report presents a patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus after a change of treatment from glimepiride to sitagliptin. After this change, she was able to keep her speed when walking with her husband, returned to her original weight, and also reached better compensation of diabetes.

In the beginningu, she was treated with metformin monotherapy. However, she suffered from gastrointestinal intolerance which prevented her from continuing this therapy.

Only a diet treatment was insufficient, therefore the general practitioner treated her with glimepiride. After 4 years of this treatment, she was unsatisfied with her state as her weight was increasing and she couldn't keep up when walking with her husband.

The change from glimepiride to sitagliptin was an ideal choice.
