The presented article deals with the development of the number and structure of patients treated in diabetological clinics in 2010 and 2017, broken down by type of diagnosis (type 1 and type 2 diabetes), sex, age and districts, based on data from the largest Czech health insurance company (VZP ČR). The knowledge of the representation of the insured persons of this insurance company in the total number of insured persons by age and sex in individual districts then enables the creation of estimates for the entire territory of Czechia, as well as regional analyzes.
The increasing demands on the care of diabetological patients as a result of increasing prevalence have been demonstrated, both in total and across districts of Czechia, especially with the diagnosis of E11 (type 2 diabetes).
