Abstract

Ascariasis is the most common helminthiasis in the world, though relatively rare in the Czech Republic. Typical presentation includes gastrointestinal as well as respiratory symptoms.

We have to include this infection in our differential diagnosis when dealing with such symptoms. The authors present a case of a 17-year-old adolescent boy with nighttime abdominal cramping and negative parasitology test, who was diagnosed with Ascaris lumbricoides infection after ten months of recurring symptoms.

Push-enteroscopy was the atypical diagnostic tool that eventually provided the diagnosis.
