The study compares reports and the nature of historical writings on the founding of two Cistercian monasteries in the Czech lands (historiae fundationum), the Chronicle of the Žďár Monastery completed in 1300 and the "Biography of Mr. Wenceslas, King of Bohemia and Poland, founder of Zbraslav", written in the second half of the first decade 14. century, later reworked into the Zbraslav Chronicle.
The comparison of the two foundations reveals differences in the conditions and method of foundation, but above all the position of its founders and the expected function of the monastery.
