Music Education in Practice

Abstract

The publication is divided into three chapters. The first chapter briefly deals with the pre-service teacher reflection of their teaching practice that is compulsory in the magisterial study programme at the Department of Music Education of the Faculty of Education, Charles University.

Based on their feedback, the topics discussed in the second chapter were determined. It focuses on listening activities with an emphasis on visualisation of audial material in music education.

The second chapter also suggests vocal and instrumental and dramatic activities that can be used in music education by the future teachers. Individual model examples and composition extracts are chosen in a manner to suit the needs of younger and older pupils.

The third chapter presents methods and forms of work that are often unjustly neglected in music education. To name just a few, it concerns clustering, diamond, mind maps, caricature, comics, or teaching through excursions, board games and other non-traditional approaches.

The discussed methodological situations stem from real teaching at , and they illustrate a broad interdisciplinary application in the context of varied study programmes. Some examples are intended for the pupils of nurseries.

They were tested at The publication also offers real examples and situations from the teaching practice of the students of the M.A. programme of the Department of Music Education at the Faculty of Education, Charles University. Selected methodological problems are supplied with practical audio and video extracts.

Herein, there is many other links to specific methodological phenomena that inspire to link music education with other study fields and offer feedback such as important terminology to remember, questions and task for analysis and control tasks. This all is intended to inspire creativity and to provide a thoroughly interactive attitude.
