Abstract

Contemporary issues related to climate change have fostered a wide range of actions in different fields, due to the complexity of the subject. Since the '90s, the necessity of a reliable scientific basis led to the establishment of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Since then, scientific assessments have been crucial for the development of policies and legislation, as it is demonstrated by the European Green Deal. This essay traces back the scientific acknowledgments and the actions to tackle climate change suggested by the IPCC with the aim to provide a short assessment of the proposal for the European Climate Law and to offer a basis for future comparative public law studies.
