Special pedagogical potential of music education in the teaching of disadvantaged pupils

Abstract

Music education is an important part of education. However, in the field of education of pupils with special educational needs, it is often neglected.

The article aims to acquaint the professional public with the possibilities that music education offers to children in a children's home. With the help of qualitative methods, we found out to what extent standard methods of music education are applicable in the environment of an children's home.

Our results show the considerable potential of music education, especially in building social competencies. However, there are clear demands on the educator, who must be able to respond flexibly to a range of challenges related to specific educational needs.
