Abstract

Ischemic stroke is clinically serious and epidemiologically significant disease. Recent stroke center care and recanalization therapy significantly improve prognosis of the patients, who have increased risk of stroke recurrence in following time period.

Therefore, it is necessary to introduce adequate secondary prevention, depending on the detected stroke etiology. This article offers an overview of available therapeutic measures in secondary stroke prevention, including changes of diet and schedule of activities, elimination of risk factors, specific medicamentous treatment and possible interventions under specific circumstances, according to recent standards and guidelines.
