Abstract

European Union requires the member states' administration to formulate and promote positions in EU negotiations and to implement EU law in their domestic environment. Membership in the EU therefore changes the internal structures of ministries and other institutions of state administration, their procedures and communication.

This book analyses the changes in the Czech state administration resulting from the membership in the EU on the cases of four institutions - Office of the Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. It demonstrates how each of the institutions adjusted to the EU membership differently reflecting their respective institutional history and the agenda for which they are responsible at the EU level.
