The paper focuses on one type of sentences which present a new phenomenon on the scene, the have-presentative sentences. The study describes in detail the English constructions of the 'have something to do' type, showing that they subsume three underlying syntactic structures with different relations between the object and the two verbs involved, have and the infinitive.

These constructions display both the grammatical word order and basic distribution of communicative dynamism. Their presentative interpretation is supported by the Czech translation counterparts.

The Czech translations also explicitly show the modal meanings associated with these constructions.
