Open-source release of the SOMHunter video retrieval tool. The software is published to serve as a basic building block for experimental video retrieval systems for researchers in retrieval, cognitive and machine learning sciences.
One of the main aims of the release is to lower the amount of effort required for a newcoming research group (or a standalone researcher enthusiast) to participate at VBS- or LSC-style video browsing competitions, thus both improving the quality of the competition participants, and improving the visibility and impact of the original SOMHunter research. The software includes also the standardized and well-tested program interfaces and APIs that the participants need for communication with the competition organization software; authors will organize and sustain the long-term maintenance of these components for community benefit.
