The delimitation of metropolitan areas and agglomerations of the Czech Republic 2020 is a key output of the public contract of the Ministry of Regional Development of the Czech Republic "Delimitation of the territory for integrated territorial investments". The purpose of the public contract was to develop a uniform definition of metropolitan areas, which is a prerequisite for setting up the effective drawing of funds from the ESI Funds and the implementation of regional policy.
Through the ITI, the role of metropolitan areas is emphasized, which are perceived as poles of growth and development of the territory. As in 2014, the definition represents a synthetic view of the mutual processes and links between core cities and their hinterland.
The indicators used include the intensity of subrubanization, the average time spent by the inhabitants of the village in the core or the mobility links expressed by the origin-destination matrices. A total of three metropolitan areas and ten agglomerations were defined.
