The aim of the contribution was to present the applied methods and preliminary results of archaeological remote sensing in the middle Surkhandarya basin (southern Uzbekistan), and evaluation of potential of the studied area for archaeological research. For the purpose of enhancement of knowledge on old Bactrian cultural landscape, the ongoing phase of the research is oriented on the study of historic military maps and their comparison with both, historic and modern, satellite imagery, as well as the satellite imagery's visual interpretation.
Employed approaches reveal a bad state of archaeological recognition of the studied area, and so far unrecognized, potential of this natural regional North-South corridor for the archaeological research. In the contribution, the attention was paid to state of preservation of recognized potential archaeological remains, which is obviously deteriorating, especially due to modern agricultural activities and growth of the settled area.
This development was demonstrated on the satellite imagery comparison.
