Abstract

This article reads Wordsworth's drama The Borderers in the context of Roger Caillois' and Wolfgang Iser's theories of play. The drama is set in the context of its selected Romantic contemporaries, highlighting the ways in which these strategies of play contribute to a deeper appreciation of the dramatic performance of the text, as well as illuminate the wider Romantic debate of transgressive heterogeneities.
