Abstract

The three main thematic areas of the book are subdivided into the total of 33 chapters. The General Part is dedicated to the principles of care for children and adolescents with rheumatic diseases.

Pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapeutic approaches complete this part of the book. The Specialised Part presents individual groups of rheumatic diseases and common differential diagnostic situations.

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis, uveitis, the macrophage activation syndrome and systemic vasculitides are discussed in separate chapters. The Practical Part summarizes characteristics of clinically defined conditions such as joint swelling, a limping child or fever.

Last, but not least, the final chapters are dedicated to primary paediatric care for patients with paediatric rheumatic diseases including the approach to infections and vaccination in relation to rheumatic diseases and immune-suppressive treatments.
