Abstract

Exercises with music and other forms of rhythmic gymnastics are part of the obligatory content of educational programs at elementary schools in the Czech Republic. Research studies conducted at schools have revealed that the programs comprising exercises with music are implemented and taught only on a small scale.

The main obstacle is teachers' fear that they are not equipped with adequate experience for such a demanding teaching activity. The objective of this study was to verify to what extent a 6-week locomotor intervention in the form of a newly composed, modernized rhythmic gymnastics program would affect the level of selected music and movement skills of a group of girls aged 12-16 years.

The article presents the results of an educational quasi-experiment. It manifests a change between the initial and the resulting level of music and movement skills: rhythmic perception, rhythmic adaptability, dynamic balance and sensory-auditory ability.
