Design and User Experience (UX) in Urban Environment

Publication at Faculty of Humanities |

Abstract

In this entry with practical examples, we will focus on the information/technological layer of cities and the user experience connected to using such a layer. Unlike the designers (experts) who have the formal license for influencing the design of the information and interaction design in public environments, inhabitants do not usually impact such structures.

Yet, concrete experience with interfaces influence the resulting experience from the city for citizens or visitors. How can the design of information and interaction impact the result of how we feel in cities? Which is the way that we perceive the communication of a city through sign systems and what opportunities for appropriation do various interest groups have? In this talk, we will view cities in metaphorical dichotomy hardware/software, we will introduce design principles and related user experience with public spaces, increasingly equipped with technologies.

The aim is to point out that design and technology influences our perception and draft a methodology for related research
