Abstrakt
Sport in the Czech Republic has had a very long and rich tradition. In this paper, we aim at describing sport's position and organisation in the political, social and economic context since its early modern forms until present, especially in the past 30 years.
In addition to the main features of sport development as a global social phenomenon, we want to look specifically at long-distance running competitions as an example of the increasing privatisation and professionalization of sport in the Czech Republic.
