To provide a comprehensive overview of the needs of older people with dementia and experiences of care for patients with dementia in an acute hospital setting. Based on the evidence, satisfying patients' individual needs enhances the quality of care for patients with dementia in acute hospital care (and other forms of care).

Methods: A scoping review was conducted using PubMed, PsychInfo, Scopus, ProQuest Central, CINAHL and Web of Science. Conclusion: Person-centred care has been identified as the ideal approach to caring for people with dementia.

To ensure the quality of such care for people with dementia in an acute hospital care setting, it is essential to include the perspective of all participants in care: professional carers, family carers and the patients themselves.
