2020

Abstract

The chapter deals with the history of the medieval panel painting of the Madonna of Veveří in the 20th century, its acquisition into the collections of the National Gallery and the litigation, which ended with the restitution of the work to church property. Emphasis is placed on the purposive instrumentalization of history.

In this case is it concerned mainly the misinterpretations of the war and post-war activities of Josef Cibulka, professor of Christian archeology at Charles University, a Catholic priest and director of the so-called National Gallery during the WW2.
