The presented text aims to enrich the history of the Krkonoše region and describes the circumstances of the creation of a lookout tower on Mount Žalý in the western Giant Mountains at the end of the 19th century. The construction itself is monitored against the background of mutual relations of the main "actors" of the building - the Austrian, Czech and German (Prussian) tourist association and also the owner of the estate, Count Jan Nepomuk of Harrach.
