Skill Acquisition Using an Applied Behavior Analytic Approach for Individuals Diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract

In the Czech Republic the education of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is an often discussed topic deserving of further attention. Although the effects of an applied behavior analytic based approach have been supported by numerous researchers abroad as effective when used in the education of individuals with ASD, only during recent years has the approach begun to see use within our country.

This paper contains the partial results of two research surveys aimed at demonstrating the effectiveness of ABA based interventions during a five month period across different service settings for preschool and early school age students diagnosed with ASD. Participants in the research group of this study are scheduled to receive ABA based interventions for a period of two years which will focus, among other things, on the development of verbal behavior.

Data collected so far indicate positive effects of the ABA based intervention for the research group.
