Abstract

Review article about NAFLD ( non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) and associated diseases. Liver steatosis is frequent finding in type 2 diabetes.

Its ethiopathogenesis has some similar characteristics like the ethiopathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Today this disease is considered to be a liver manifestation of cardiometabolic syndrome.

Its incidence has been increasing together with the incidence of obesity all over the world. Simple steatosis can develop to inflammation (steatohepatitis) and next to fibrosis and liver cirrhosis with hepatocelular carcinoma.

The article describes clinical features, development, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. The care of the patients with NAFLD unifies the specialists from various branches of internal medicine and surgery.
