Fifty years after the tragic mountaineering expedition in Peru

Abstract

Fifty years ago, as a result of the Great Peru's Ancash earthquake collapsed the summit of Mount Huascaran Norte (6 655 m). Gigantic avalanche of stones, ice and snow destroyed towns and villages in the valleys, killed more than 70,000 people and the whole Czechoslovak expedition Peru 1970, which had a camp at the lakes Lianganuco.

Neither after 50 years we don't forget this tragic event.
