Abstract
The aim of the opinion is to summarize the knowledge of current possibilities of pharmacotherapy of obesity and its complications. There is a stratification of the treatment of adult obesity according to the recommended procedure of the European Society for the Study of Obesity (EASO), an overview of antiobesity drugs approved in the Czech Republic with their effects on average weight loss, side effects and established contraindications, with the necessary monitoring during their application.
It also provides an overview of studies that demonstrate the long-term efficacy and safety of this treatment. The Common Opinion proposes an algorithm for selecting antiobesity drugs depending on the presence of obesity-related diseases according to the principles of evidence-based medicine.
