The aim of this article is to give a basic overview of the history and development of the trade unions in the Czech Republic especially with regard to their development in the communist era. The article also discusses the current legislation, various degrees of trade unionism, criteria of representativeness, the conditions of social dialogue and current development and involvement of the trade unions in defending the interests of the employees.
The article does not omit an overview of various other employee representatives and their comparison with the trade unions.
