Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein: Conciones meæ Bohemicæ is the output of Charles University Grant Agency project No. 178218, "Baroque humanist-preacher Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein at the Metropolitan Chapter of St Vitus in Prague", conducted at the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University. In the form of a reader's edition, the project makes available the manuscript collection of sermons delivered by Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein during his activity at the Metropolitan Chapter of St Vitus in Prague in the period 1746-1755.
The book thus introduces the personality of Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein through his own work in one of the stages of his life before taking up the episcopal see in Litoměřice. The content is divided into two main parts: 1.
An introductory study on Emmanuel Ernst von Waldstein, 2. An edition of manuscript sermons.
In the introductory study, Waldstein is presented in a broader context in the form of a biography. Attention is also drawn to the importance of his extensive written work, which is also presented here, as well as to Waldstein's preaching activity, including an interpretation of selected texts.
Within the biography, some dates were also revised, such as the dates of Waldstein's birth or leisure activities. In addition, information on some sources was made more accurate.
With regard to Waldstein's sermons, it is clear that they reflected the contemporary practice, using the knowledge of that time and relevant facts of the cited authorities. The editorial section contains a total of 38 as yet unpublished sermons of Waldstein, which are mostly in the Czech language.
Only one sermon is in German. The collection includes Sunday sermons, feast sermons and sermons for certain occasions.
There are also feast sermons on Czech patrons such as St Vitus, St Wenceslas and St John of Nepomuk. The book is intended for all those interested in Baroque sermons from both the ranks of experts and the general public.
