Contemporary Art in Art Education Practice: Perfotmative Strategies II. - Sound Experiments, Part II

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2019

Abstract

The article is a continuation of a methodically elaborated series of encounters with contemporary visual art in art education. In this part, the author chose the work Dialtones: A Telesymphony by the American artist, programmer and educator Golan Levin, and his revolutionary sound performance, presented at the Ars Electronica New Media Festival in Linz, Austria in 2001.

Levin claims that the mobile phone is an artistic means of expression that we all carry with us. He shows how this new means of expression can be used for artistic performance with the involvement of the audience.

An alternative implementation of this sound experiment in art class offers the use of a mobile phone as a means of expression and, by the nature of the assignment, the experiment is also an overlap into other school subjects - English language and music education.
