Politics, Society and Culture in the Context of Alexander Schmemann´s Sacramental Theology

Publication at Protestant Theological Faculty |
2007

Abstract

The article examines the sources of Schmemann?s sacramental theology in pre-revolutionary Russia as well as in French and American emigration. It asks why Schmemann, despite his symbolic theology relating together the world, the church and the Kingdom of God so well, saw politically and socially engaged theologies as a threat, and what influenced his gradual alienation from ecumenism.
