Evaluating the development of medicine as a whole is an extremely difficult task, if not impossible. It is difficult to find a thread on which beads symbolizing major medical milestones would be threaded.
A relatively successful attempt is the "Chronicle of Medicine" published in 1994. The outline of the mentioned chronicle was the calendar time, when first available information was assigned to selected historical periods and then to individual calendar years.
In this text, selected medical disciplines were chosen as the basis, whose representatives were invited to look at the last hundred years of development of their field and briefly formulate what they consider crucial. This created an interesting mosaic, where it is left to the reader to read carefully, select and weigh, to realize and evaluate what fundamental changes have taken place in medicine.
