Abstract
The case report describes an 80-year-old patient with a known diagnosis of dilated cardiomyopathy, who was hospitalized for pulmonary edema. In addition to a left ventricular systolic dysfunction, a severe mitral regurgitation also significantly contributed to the recurrent acute exacerbation of chronic heart failure.
Despite intensive treatment of heart failure, attacks of a paroxysmal orthopnoic dyspnea continued to recur. The patient's condition was highly risky for a surgical solution.
An implantation of the MitraClip, which led to a significant reduction in mitral regurgitation, helped to stabilize the patient. The patient could be sized for outpatient care.
