On the question of transnational culture and politics of remembrance

Publication at Faculty of Arts |
2020

Abstract

The essay denies the possibility of a transnational European memory by dealing with the key concepts of culture, memory and (memory) politics. It is shown that the alleged possibility of a transnational memory has its central point of reference in the Holocaust, which is not, however, suitable as the only reference for the whole of European history.

For this reason, a conversation between the individual national cultures of remembrance is postulated as the only possibility of common remembrance.
