The aim of the text is to describe and interprete the present state of the idea of multiculturalism, its necessity, limitations and different ways of its application to education. The starting point of the text arises from a shared statement of the authors' collective: multiculturalism as an idea and a social practice is going through a major crisis.
It has become the subject of valid and multidirectional criticism and this criticism must be reflected upon and evaluated in relation to the present situation. The text focuses mainly on problematic moral implications of multicultural ideology (relativism) and tries to explain why the multiculturalism has been rejected in many regions of the western world.
On the other hand, the necessity of multicultural humanist recognition is defended on condition that it will be critically reflected and reinterpreted.
