In the Czech Republic, there the transversal annual life tables are published only from 1920. Despite the fact that quality of statistics and data in the previous period was sufficient enough, the usually published analyses were based mostly on the crude rates only (with the exception of years around population censuses where also life tables were constructed).
The aim of this paper is to reconstruct the data for intercensal periods too and to construct and analyze annual life tables for the period 1870-1910. The presented results develop previous studies using the unprecedently detailed information mapping real impact of mortality crises or improvements during the studied period.
A special focus is on particular temporary deviations of mortality caused by epidemics or other occasions and its reflection into age-specific mortality levels.
