Territory and Violent Non-State Actor : By Controlling the Territory to Effectively Achieve Radical Islam Objectives?
Abstract
The monograph aims to specify the theoretical concept in the form of a testable hypothesis about the relationship between the political control of the territory by a violent non-state actor and the effectiveness of its political objectives (policies) achievement. The theoretical starting point operates with the assertion that through the ability to exert territorial governance, there is a mediated (non-linear) causal relationship between the effectiveness of objective achievement and the territorial penetration.
Four case studies are presented in the research, which is conducted from the perspective of qualitative-explanatory epistemology. As the main analytical finding is the partial confirmation of the hypothesis claiming that, first, there is no directly proportional relationship between the territorial penetration and the objective effectiveness, and second, the territorial penetration and the territorial governance are necessary conditions for the objective effectiveness.
