Abstract

The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus has been increasing. In general, it is affected by economic growth, urbanization, population ageing, inappropriate dietary habits, and reduced physical activity.

Long-acting basal analogues have brought an improvement to the treatment of diabetes. They have a prolonged and more stable effect with overall less variability between days, and thus a lower risk of hypoglycaemia.

However, the patient's attitude to the illness is crucial for their treatment.
