Hypoglycaemia is one of the side effects of antidiabetic drugs, and liver insufficiency is one of its risk factors. A recent study on glycaemic excursions in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and chronic liver disease showed frequent asymptomatic nocturnal hypoglycaemias and glycaemic fluctuations related to a degree of liver insufficiency in these patients.
Higher risk of hypoglycaemia should be taken into account when treating diabetic patients with liver insufficiency.
