Abstract
The article deals with more general issues of preparatory proceedings, specifically examines its purpose, the basic principles of criminal proceedings that apply in it. Against this background, the relationship between pre-trial and court proceedings (main trial) is also considered.
The Czech criminal proceedings belong are based on the continental model of criminal proceedings, which is characterized by strong preparatory proceedings. Although several amendments to the Penal Code have been made since the early 1990s, which aimed to shift the focus of evidence to court proceedings, there is still a strong emphasis on pre-trial proceedings
