A Czech dream in France. The century-old history of Czech high school education in Dijon, Nîmes and Saint-Germain-en-Laye

Publication at Faculty of Education |
2018

Abstract

The publication maps the history of the most important Czech international educational institution, the so-called Czech sections at French secondary schools. The importance of the project lies in the first place in the length of the tradition - since 1920 - which makes it the oldest bilateral educational project in Europe.

Furthermore, in continuity, as its continuous closure and renewal is a good indication of the international cultural orientation of Czech society, or of the possibility of opening borders to the west. Last but not least, the project is also important for the formation of Czech elites in the 20th century.

A comprehensive analysis of the topic allows us to understand these phenomena as part of the cultural diplomacy of the 20th century on the example of Czech-French relations. This French publication is a modified version of the book "The Phenomenon of Dijon".
