The aim of this work is the study of polycarbonate for integrating dosimetry of high doses of ionizing radiation as a considerably cheaper alternative to commonly used alanine dosimetry. It is focused on the molecular mechanisms of physical and chemical processes that cause color changes of the polymer after irradiation.

Simultaneously, the processes that affect the regeneration time of these optical changes were mapped. The methods of absorption optical spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance and positron annihilation spectroscopy were used for these analyses.

Moreover, the detected structural changes in the molecular chains of the irradiated polymer were compared to the observed changes in mechanical properties studied using uniaxial tensile testing and nanoindentation.
