Abstract

The chapter focuses on a thorough analysis of power structures in Turkmenistan mapping also its dynamics. Neopatrimonialism is considered as the essential framework for understanding key aspect of governance in the country.

The analysis gives special attention to Informal structures, the role of clientelism, corruption, or cronyism. After the deep analysis of these factors it comes to the conclusion that the power concentration in a closed circle of ruling elites results in such a political culture that enables the long-term continuity of the regime whoever will hold the power in the country.
