Abstract

The chapter focuses on the representation of space in the novel Time on my Hands by Giorgio Vasta and the way in which the author "narrates the time" through the spatial depiction of the city of Palermo in the year 1978. Starting from the concept of Bakhtin's chronotope, the analysis carried out is based on the thesis of geocritics (Westphal), but also takes into consideration the concept of the so-called smellscape (Porteous), and of the narrative technique of stalking, invented and used by the neorealists (Zavattini).
