Abstract
This monograph introduces Rudolf Dvořák (1860-1920), the first professor of Oriental philology at the Czech university in Prague. Dvořák's biography and chapters about Oriental Studies in Leipzig and at Prague German university, are supplemented with analytical chapters exploring his approach to the Orient within the context of the Czech national enlightenment and his academic contribution.
