Abstract

The cervical orthosis increases the user's quality of life, enables safe food intake and activities requiring an upright head position with use in neurology - neuromuscular diseases with "dropped head" syndrome, such as ALS, Parkinson's disease, myasthenia gravis, myopathy. ENT - a disease manifested by dysphagia.

Orthopedics / neurosurgery - degenerative diseases of the cervical spine, conditions after cervical spine surgery. The orthosis consists of a plastic skeleton for the head part, which is connected to a metal spinal support copying the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.

The head part is lined in the area of the forehead with a textile material (foam) to soften the contact of the head part with the user's forehead. Fixation of the orthosis is enabled by textile straps fixing the user's shoulders and chest.

In this form, the fixation of the head in the required position for safe food intake (mild flexion, support and fixation of the head) and at the same time the upright position of the body (support of the spine) is ensured. Anchoring the head in an upright position will reduce the risk of inhaling food and performing some daily activities of the user (reading or writing, working on a PC, watching television).
