Abstract

Titania is widely used for its photocatalytic properties, it allows to treat polluted water and enhance surface self-cleaning properties. In this work the titania films are deposited on Ag nanoparticles.

Silver shows localized surface plasmon resonance which could improve the photocatalysis. Ag@Ti nanoparticles were prepared by fully vacuum based methods.

Ag nanoparticles were formed in a gas aggregation source and the Ti shell was deposited in flight by sputtering from 2 magnetrons with Ti targets. Prepared core@shell structures were characterised by XPS, EDX, SEM and UV-Vis transmission measurements.
