Abstract

This book is an annotated translation of Stuttgarter Privatvorlesungen by F. W.

J. Schelling.

The text is based on a series of lectures given by Schelling in 1810 to a selected circle of listeners in Stuttgart. Since Stuttgarter Privatvorlesungen were meant for a largely nonexpert, though well-educated audience, they might very well be the most accessible introduction to the later period of Schelling's thought.

The translator provided the text with an extensive introduction which presents the lectures in the context of Schelling's philosophy and shows in what way they provide a link between the Treatise on the Essence of Human Freedom and the Ages of the World (1809), which Schelling began to write later in year of 1810, not long after he presented the lectures.
