Abstract

The book "Metaforyczność w dyskursie genderowym polskiego literaturoznawstwa" (Metaphoricity in the Gender Discourse of Polish Literary Studies) is an important contribution to metatheoretical reflection not only in the field of Polish studies, but also in literary criticism and gender studies in general. In this book, Katarzyna Lisowska (University of Wrocław) combines seemingly incompatible, namely gender studies with a structuralist approach.

The author's main goal is to analyze the metaphors used in the gender discourse of Polish literary criticism after 1989, however, her work is inspirative already in the sections preceding the analysis of metaphoricity, especially in the first chapter. This chapter is devoted to the characteristics of gender discourse in Polish literary science; the next chapter deals with different theories of metaphor and metaphoricity, and the third one consists of the core analysis of the tropics itself.
