The Chapel of the Mother of God (Frauenkirche) is one of the symbols of the city of Nuremberg. The Nuremberg patrician families made a significant contribution to its construction and decoration.
But many also associate it with the Czech milieu. First of all it is the person of the founder, emperor and Czech king Charles IV, and relations also the collegium mansionariorum of the Prague Cathedral who have been entrusted with the spiritual administration of the Nuremberg Chapel.
The book presents the first ever art history monography of a the chapel. Its first part takes the form of a guide for the art-loving visitor, the second part places the building, its decoration and furniture in the context of medieval liturgical practice.
